1. Inform the greater neighborhood of this proposed development.
2. Develop a website (Lorimer & Garland Neighborhood Group) to keep neighbors informed.
3. Small group will meet with council member Jane Harrison on December 6 and report back to neighbors.
4. Develop a petition outlining our opposition and circulate for signatures.
5. Send a copy of the petition to all city council members.
6. When a zoning request is submitted for the development, the city will be required to hold meetings with members of the neighborhood. Plan to attend these meetings to support our case.
7. When the rezoning case comes before the city council for approval, our spokesperson (Jane Fenn) will present our case opposing the development.
8. If feasible, work with the developer to develop a scaled-down version of the development.
Given Raleigh’s commitment to providing affordable housing, an affordable housing development will probably be placed on this site eventually. Our efforts are to assure that a smaller number of units will be allowed and thus the development will be more compatible with our neighborhood and the environment.
